Not such an easy job, when having to deal with noisy, unmotivated kids, parents that are difficult, agencies out to eat you and when you go to class and realize he has nothing to do, and only asked you there so you can play internet games with him.

have a new blog over at www.eatyourmaths.blogspot.com , so please go and support!
This blog stays as a light-hearted relaying of my life, and less of tuition as those tuition musings go over there.
IP Symposium is over yesterday's-yesterday, so and yes,we had good fun,it was so much more fun that last year when i just stoned for 5 days with my Mr Yeo. Even a techno-idiot like mr fong could love the Macs, and even a Pimpleboy loved to camwhore so much! Woah!
the iMac was excellent, the camwhoring was so good until i got to see the photos seriously (haha), and podcasting was so fun.Admittedly i was one of the boys who did less and did less of the scripting and banter and podcasting, but i enjoyed myself and the group was good.
My only regret is that i did not get to know alot more about the podcast technology, but being the noob that i am,knowing how the 'thingy' works and roughly how it can work is good enough :D
Go watch it at www.thebirdthatflu.blogspot.com and i-am-sure-you-can-recognize-my-voice lol.
Thank you sir! Thank you sir!HALabels: random

Inverse Functions: Now widely available at PSLE Level! Get your copies while stocks last!
It has been a tiring day for MrFong, but before he sleeps he remembers that PSLE is coming! Therefore, he would leave you with one question to savour, and until the PSLE sickness rolls over, mr fong would give away one question each post (if he is generous :D)!
"It takes Suzie 7 hours to sew a dress by herself. If Rachel helps her, they will take 4 hours to sew the dress. How long will Rachel take to sew the dress by herself?"
Maths is about concepts and basics, but this one doesn't seem 'basic', does it? :)
See, MrFong always tell the students that PSLE is not "Please Stop Learning Everything", but no one believes! Lol...Mr Fong is appealing to the masses to donate knowledge generously, so Mr Fong's students will get this question, WHILE STOCKS LAST!
P.S. This kind of question always appear in the problem sums 4-mark range, so please understand it before stepping into the exam hall to encounter the PSLE sickness! :)
Next up, a preview:
Do you know what is the sum of the odd numbers from 4 to 248? :P

Kids II- the numerous joys of teaching
Church tuition resumed today afternoon, and with a promise to himself/herself that he/her would start with the class on a new slate, 'The Teacher' again strode into class.
-->At this point, i would admit that The Teacher, whom i referred to in my previous post, is myself.<--
Mr Fong met the legendary MeilaN when he arrived at 1500hrs, about 30min late, and hence prepared quickfire excuses to execute from the tip of my fingers. But thank my lucky stars, heng ah, she just asked me if i wanted to split the class straight away, and without waiting for my answer (i wasn't prepared with one anyway :P),she entered, with the apprehensive Mr Fong in tow.
To my pleasant astoundment, everybody belonging to my 5B class waved at me happily, along with some of the 5A kids who knew me from last year.My heart felt so light you know! :D Anyway, the legendary MeiLaN entered and asked if they wanted to split classes.
Suddenly, a 'kiddy stampede' occured as everyone kicked away their chairs, pushed away their stuff, grabbed their bags and rushed out, like they were escaping from jail. Just to enter my class, leh. Woah, I was so glad,y'know! I felt like a million dollars,HEH.
Armed with the new tactic of 'never-ever-laugh-and-joke' demeanour i ingeniously planned out and practised during the hiatus, I managed to keep them quiet by and large, and a significant amount of work was done. Of course alot of wrong lah,but at least they tried! For now wrong also nevermind, just need to do :D
--
To be plainly honest, this whole narrative can be shortened into a paragraph. I just signed in with this post to express how kids, no matter how disruptive, noisy or vulgar, always manage to soothe my mood when i teach, and always refresh my soul, saving me from the 'chee ko pek"'lao ah pek' syndrome. And i also would want to thank my kids for making me feel so darned good today, giving me a sense of being so wanted, and for doing more homework today.
XIE XIE! :)Labels: kids, teaching, wonders

School from an Ah Lian's POV.
School's starting tomorrow,schrool it (yisheng i'm half-copying ur pun :D) haha.
thank god for a wonderful holiday,i recharged and returned safely...if you dun mention the cuts, bites, and bruises that shames my balls' size. :S
this is how i spent my last day of recharging:
1) Sleep.
2) FIFA.
3) A well-deserved massage to rub out the numerously-ugly kinks in my muscles (YES I HAVE MUSCLES)
4) Soccer matches from 6p.m. to 11.
now as i post this, i have 5 minutes to 6 months of shagginess again! :(
wish me luck, and i do hope i am more extroverted, friendly, talkative, popular,
enthusiastic,approachable,and whatever-synonym-that-sounds-good.blahblahblah.
P.S. i do realize i am a freaking ahlian now.i have a barrage of cheap red pens, after the terrors of marking homework in the holidays. I have a bunch of them readily available, and if not sold I AM READY TO POKE THEM AT NAUGHTY STUDENTS.
i'm sorry if the Mr Fong turns into a slithery, nasty Mrs Fong that bites, curses, bitches and scratches like a... er,ah lian.Labels: random, school

Kids I- the numerous joys of teaching
However fiercely or unfairly you treat kids, they will always forget.
today,i refused to pamper my p2 boy when he retreated into a whimpering heap to avoid english work as he did last week.he had tried this trick last lesson, and got away with it.i had given in to his pleas and allowed him reprieves, which on hindsight is Mr fong's mistake.
but today, i refused because you cannot pamper the kid too much, or they climb all over you.A tutor cannot be all fun and games, and if the respect that creates a healthy relationship is undermined by a constant pampering and soft touch, then it creates a working atmosphere that does not benefit the child, and an atmosphere that is impossible to rectify for the tutor (which refers to Mr Fong in this case!).
hence this was why i was irked today, while watching him hide behind folded arms, peering through the gap between his hands (like i didn't know he was trying to peep at me-.-).
after a while of pleading and tantrums,i folded up the work i wanted him to do and instructed, "There you go,this will now be your homework, and you won't be getting any help from me."Then showing irritation at his antics,i kept the english book and snatched out the maths book he so craved for.
after he had enjoyed himself doing maths (Er,i even got a kiss from him),i retrieved the English book and asked him if he wanted to do the work now with my help.Eh,tutor's help always the best ok! Especially Mr Fong's... :) He grudgingly accepted, and we finished the work (well, partly at least :P).
Class finished, and still displaying a slight resentment at his tantrums,i left.As i walked to the busstop, with the sun hardly helping to alleviate my sense of irritation,i heard a yell.
"BYE BYE WINSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I turned around, and with a jolt, saw my student frolicking away on his scooter, but not before bidding me good-bye.
Wa lao eh.SO CUTE RIGHT???
Enthusiastically,i waved back merrily to him, and a beam litted up on my face. Happy endorphins roamed in my heart, accentuating a warm, fuzzy feeling that made me appreciate entering this job- to face kids that are always so sweet, irritating as they may be in class :) .
